Elaine is the visionary behind Liberty Trails and having had the opportunity to ride in Africa, the USA, and Europe, Elaine had a profound realization that nowhere beat Dartmoor, the very place she calls home,
Upon her return to Devon, Elaine embarked on a mission to create a one-of-a-kind riding experience in the UK, blending the rugged beauty of Dartmoor with a dedicated team of horses, hosts, and guides, all wrapped in a high calibre of hospitality. This was the genesis of a remarkable business idea that began over 10 years ago.

Meet Bob, the heart and soul of Liberty Trails and a steadfast presence on Dartmoor. Bob is the embodiment of hospitality, a true super host who seems to work his magic effortlessly. Meet Amy, undoubtedly the fittest member of our Liberty Trails team. Amy’s connection to Dartmoor runs deep, having grown up in Devon and spent her formative years racing across the moorland atop her trusty 13hh pony. She attended school in Tavistock, a town nestled amidst the beauty of Dartmoor, which further fueled her love for the place she calls home!
Amy’s journey into the world of equestrianism began as a riding instructor in the local area, but her passion for horses led her on an exciting international adventure. She honed her skills in Sweden and Florida, where she discovered a profound love for dressage. Her dedication saw her working alongside top-level riders, gaining invaluable experience in the equestrian world.
Beyond her equestrian pursuits, Amy is equally passionate about fitness and nutrition. She holds qualifications as a Personal Trainer, which beautifully complement her equestrian expertise. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself doing a stretch routine before, during and after each day in the saddle!
Amy’s connection with Liberty Trails began a decade ago when she assisted in organizing the Dartmoor Derby. Since then, she has been an invaluable part of our team, guiding our guests with a wealth of knowledge in fitness and nutrition. Her enthusiasm for Dartmoor, horses, and overall well-being is contagious, and she goes the extra mile to ensure you not only enjoy a fantastic ride but also benefit from pre and post-ride ‘stretch sessions’ that enhance your stay.

We are thrilled to welcome Michele and her horse Bonnie as the latest additions to the Liberty Trails team.
Michele had a tremendously successful first season with us last summer, and we couldn’t be more delighted that she and Bonnie will be guiding our guests again this season.
With 30 years of service in the Devon and Cornwall Police, Michele brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role. Since retiring, she has been passionately involved in rearing and showing rare breed sheep with her husband, residing on the edge of Dartmoor’s north moor for the past 28 years. It’s no surprise that their flock includes the iconic Dartmoor Greyface sheep, perfectly complementing their deep connection to the region.
Michele’s love for Dartmoor runs deep, having explored its moors on foot, horseback, and even on runs for years. Now, she is thrilled to share her passion for the landscape with others, guiding them on unforgettable adventures atop her beloved horse Bonnie.
Throughout her career, Michele’s dedication to service extended beyond the police force. Whether leading conservation projects in Guyana with Operation Raleigh or running the New York Marathon with the NYPD running club, she has always embraced new challenges with enthusiasm and determination.
