Wow what a fantastic long weekend I have just shared with Sara Cox , Liberty Trails ( Elaine and the magnificent team ) and my fellow riders ! From start to finish this is better than any Christmas Day feeling . The horses are top quality and so well cared for . My horse , Star , indulged me in some of the most exhilarating riding I have ever had as we picked our way across the moor , led by Amy and Michele - both excellent guides and horsewomen ! The care , camaraderie, humour , advice , food , hotel …. The list is actually endless . This is a first class experience and Sara Cox and her friend Els were the best company . We laughed , we cried , we screamed with excitement and I will never forget it . Elaine and team went out of their way to welcome us and ensure that we were left begging for more ! We were all so sad to leave . There will definitely be an encore and friendships made for life . Don’t second think this . Just book it . It’s like going into the back of the wardrobe and ending up in magical Narnia . Thank you Liberty Trails - we love you and will see you again soon xxx

The Dartmoor Derby was a once-in-a-lifetime treat for me. It lived up to, and indeed, surpassed, all my expectations. I was given three gorgeous horses to ride who were all, fit, well-mannered and forward going, and I really enjoyed riding each one. They all coped with the challenging terrain of Dartmoor beautifully. Riding different horses each day was excellent and kept the challenge fresh. The complex logistics of each day felt calm and seamless. I loved meeting everyone in the whole group, and I hope I'll stay in touch with many of them in future. Being at Bovey Castle was the cherry on the cake, and it was wonderful to be able to swim and use the spa at the end of a long day's riding!

Being a bit of a princess, I chose to stay in the castle. Bovey Castle was absolute luxury. The grounds are gorgeous and include a highly rated golf course to keep the non-riders busy. There are also miles of beautiful walking paths around the property, which I took advantage of on the day following the Derby.

There were no tracks to follow and no fences or hedges to hamper the pace. Even though we were moving fast over the countryside we were able to ride alongside each other and chat, and Elaine made sure that we paused regularly so she could point out the landmarks and explain the history and stories associated with the moor.
