WAR HORSE RIDE
The cinematic two-day War Horse Ride takes in the stunning locations on Dartmoor used during the filming of the acclaimed War Horse motion picture.
This is the most rustic of the Liberty Trail rides and gives accomplished riders the chance to explore many of the places featured in Steven Spielberg’s epic film War Horse, inspired by the book written by Michael Morpurgo.
This two-day, three-night guided ride either on hired horses or guest’s own horses, covers varying terrain including open grasslands, woodland, granite tors, rocky outcrops, stone circles and standing stones. You’ll ride past the isolated Grade II-listed building used during filming as the Narracott family’s farmhouse and Sheepstor Village, which was also featured in the film. This ride offers unrivalled galloping country, as well as the chance to soak up the landscape at a more leisurely pace.
The War Horse Ride starts and finishes in one of our outposts and includes an overnight stay for horses on a Dartmoor farm where they are turned out to grass overnight. Riders in pairs or small groups of up to four at a time spend each night in the same place.
Depending on the time of year, you might also be able to join hill farmers as they muster their cattle across the moor and get a taste of Dartmoor life.
